WDC chairman backs Taoiseach on Knock issue

Commenting on the statement made by Joe Kennedy, chairman of Ireland West Airport Knock, who directed a public appeal to An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny, at a recent function, to ensure his support to Ireland West Airport Knock, chairman of the Western Development Commission, Paddy McGuinness, said: “Mr Kennedy is widely respected for his support and interest in the ongoing development of the Western region and, particularly, Ireland West Airport Knock. His comments are honourable and merely indicated that he hoped his aspirations for the airport, and those of An Taoiseach’s, were aligned.”

Finnish travel blogger Satu Vänskä-Westgarth is taking on the “challenge of her lifetime” – cycling the entire Wild Atlantic Way, or some 2,500km along Ireland’s western seaboard, over the next five weeks.

Business Impact Celebration reveals Mayo businesses contributed more than €450,000 to local charities and community groups in 2013

In Mayo in 2013, businesses donated a total of €458,011 in cash and in kind donations to local charities and community groups. More than 1,295 hours were volunteered by local employees and over 134 community partnerships were supported. This information is being captured by Business in the Community Ireland, on an online interactive map entitled the Business Impact Map which gives a county by county breakdown of how companies such as A&L Goodbody, ESB, Intel Ireland, Diageo Ireland and their employees supported their local community groups and charities during 2013.

€360,000 for discovery points in Mayo

Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Michael Ring this week announced €3.2m funding for the next phase of the Wild Atlantic Way development. As part of the overall funding package €360,000 has been allocated to Mayo for works on 24 discovery points and four embarkation points along the route.
